Darbar-e-Akbari

The play was in three acts and narrated how Emperor Akbar brought about his ideal of 'secularism ' out of intrigue - ridden court and fanatic society. It aimed to show the parallels in terms of religious divisions between Akbar's time and the contemporary age. The Indian Express called it ' a terrific country brew of a play ' while The Statesman termed it ' a bold attempt to use the lessons of an elegant past to point out the shortcomings of contemporary life '.

Mr Anand had collected a huge cast of young men and women , for most of whom it was their first taste of big theatre. The play drew packed houses throughout its one week run.
